There is certainly no shortage of SAT prep services around. Why choose Crimson Review?
Experience
We’ve been prepping students for the SAT and ACT since 1986 at the Wayne office. Same office (though a lot larger that the one we we started with), and same Director. Other companies that list founding dates in the 1980s and earlier are actually referring to when the parent company or the franchising company started. The local office and staff you are dealing with may have started only a few years ago or even a few months ago. Over the years we’ve seen many companies come and go. We’re still here delivering the best preparation available at the most reasonable rates.
More Experience
Operating in Wayne since 1986. Small staff. Low personnel turnover. Average SAT tutoring experience is over 5 years.
All staff members hold college or graduate degrees. We do not hire college or high school students, bright as they may be, to fill temporary positions during peak times or during vacations, or to teach programs affiliated with summer camps.
Our Director has over 20 years of test preparation experience.
Our owner and Director, Bill Wood, has been prepping students our first day of business. He’s been through all the test changes. He’s seen it all. He personally trains all tutors that work at Crimson Review, and he has a personal stake in the success of every student who comes in for preparation.
Independence
Crimson Review is not a franchise and is not owned by a large corporation. We owe no franchise fees and do not have to meet profit quotas set by the home office. We are free to use whatever materials we find to be the best for our students (many are produced by us), and we encourage students to take advantage of free and low cost resources available outside of Crimson Review.
Value
Crimson Review is not a franchise and is not owned by a large corporation. We owe no franchise fees and do not have to meet profit margins set by a home office. We do not have a receptionist. The tutors answer the phone. As a result, we usually charge less than most other services—sometimes substantially less. (And no aggressive sales tactics, either.)
For example, our courses include 5 hours of one-on-one class time. You’d pay anywhere from $625 to over $1,000 for that at most prep services. However, we’ve combined those 5 hours with 12 and a half hours of group meetings, a diagnostic exam, 3 College Board released sample exam administrations, and all the materials for $975.
Small Is Better
In the Crimson Review Course, the each student schedules one full hour of private tutoring with an instructor each week. We can get some serious work done in an hour and we can address, in private, the specific concerns of each student. Although it is much more expensive to run the course this way, it is a much more effective way to teach it.
The test prep chains and franchises try to assure you that your student will get lots of private attention in their group meetings. Let’s face it, the instructor cannot stop the class to give one student any meaningful private time while the other students sit and wait.
